Common questions

Q. How often should my chimney or flue be swept?

A. This will depend on the amount of use and the fuel being burnt. It can be as little as once a year or as much as quarterly. Call us to discuss and we will let you know what is best and safest for you.

 Q. I don’t use my fire much. Why should I have my chimney swept?

A. Over time, even infrequently used chimneys will develop a build up of soot which can lead to problems like soot fall or dangerous fumes. Bird’s nests, twigs and other debris can find themselves in there too, which puts you at risk of a chimney fire. An annual clean should eliminate these problems.

Q. Is it very messy?

A. Not at all. We take great care to ensure that no soot or dirt enters your home. We will have the highest respect for your property at all times.

Q. When is the best time to have my chimney swept?

A. Early spring or summer are good times to have a chimney swept, after the heavy use of the winter is over so that a potential harmful build up of soot can be removed. Depending on what fuel you are burning you may need your chimney to be swept more regularly than once a year. Winter is a very busy time for sweeps, as everyone only thinks to have the chimney swept once the colder weather draws in but this could mean that we can’t attend to your chimney straight away.

 Q. What areas do you cover?

A. We cover Northumberland, Tyne & Wear and parts of County Durham including major towns and cities such as Newcastle, Gateshead, Morpeth, Sunderland, Hexham and Durham as well as more rural and coastal areas.

Q. How much will it cost?

A. We will give you a price based on your individual needs but a chimney sweep starts from just £45 including your National Association of Chimney Sweeps certificate.
